Senator Gonzales called the conference committee on Senate Bill 23-028, penalty for commercial vehicle offenses, to order. A quorum was present.
Representative Weissman distributed and explained CLSB028.001, which asks that the Senate accede to the House amendments made to the bill and that the rerevised bill be adopted without change (Attachment A). He discussed the bill's history and reasons for the proposed amendments.
Committee discussion followed about the proposed amendment, including the stakeholder process, the role of the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice in making recommendations, vehicle operators, employers, and valid driver's licenses.
Committee members further discussed civil consequences for employers who allow employees to drive without a valid driver's license.
Committee discussion continued about the proposed amendment and the CCJJ.
