Taylor Szilagyi,
Executive Vice President at Colorado Farm Bureau, Protect Colorado Ag Water
Coalition (the Coalition), introduced her presentation and gave an overview
of the challenges facing its members and the Coaltion's top priorities
for dealing with the drought in Colorado. Members of the Coalition includes
the Colorado Farm Bureau, Colorado Cattlemen's Association, Colorado Livestock
Association, and the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union. Their top priorities
include protecting private property rights, ensuring agriculture producers
remain productive and profitable; conservation efforts must be voluntary
and temporary; water conservation efforts should seek a regional balance;
and the rights and obligations, and mechanisms for equitable water apportionment
established by the Colorado River Compact.
