Representative Hamner, sponsor, presented Senate Joint Memorial 17-001, concerning the need for Congress to fund catastrophic wildfire response costs. The memorial, recommended by the Wildfire Matters Review Committee, memorializes Congress fund the costs for catastrophic wildfire response outside the normal budgets for federal forest management agencies.

Mike Morgan, Division of Fire Prevention and Control, spoke in support of the memorial and discussed the need for increased funds for fire mitigation. Mr. Morgan answered questions from the committee regarding mitigation grants and wildfire mitigation in the state of Colorado.

Denis Eulberg, Colorado Professional Firefighters, spoke in support of the memorial and discussed the suppression costs of fire mitigation.
