Representative Pettersen provided an overview on the work of the Opioid and Other Substance Use Disorders Interim Committee over the interim.

A handout was distributed to the committee (Attachment A).  Dr. Robert Valuck, Consortium for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention, provided statistics on opioid overdose deaths nationally and in Colorado.

Dr. Valuck described the costs of the opioid epidemic on the economy.  He explained the treatment gap for substance abuse and the reasons treatment is not sought.
