Senators Kirkmeyer and Fields, co-prime sponsors, presented House Bill 24-1072, concerning increased evidentiary requirements in criminal proceedings for protection of victims of sexual assaults.  The bill sponsors discussed rape shield laws and admissibility standards in court.

Majority Leader Rodriguez, prime sponsor, presented House Bill 24-1241, concerning aligning the threshold for a comparable municipal offense to a state-level petty property crime for purposes of porhibiting a monetary condition of release.

Senator Exum, prime sponsor, presented House Bill 24-1102, concerning requirements for individuals appointed to serve in the certain independent agencies of the Judicial Department.  

Committee members asked questions about the hiring requirements for independent judicial agencies, as outlined in the bill.

Senator Exum, prime sponsor, presented  House Bill 24-1104, concerning protection of firefighters' personal information from publication on the internet. 

Senators Kolker and Jaquez Lewis presented Senate Bill 24-131, concerning prohibiting carrying a firearm in sensitive space. 

Committee members asked the bill sponsors questions about sensitive and omitted spaces, as defined in the bill.  Committee discussion ensued about a related United States Supreme Court decision on sensitive places and firearms. 

 

Chair Gonzales laid out the ground rules for the hearing and placed a five hour limit on testimony.
