Senator Cooke called the committee to order; a quorum was present. Senator Williams, sponsor, presented House Bill 17-1138, concerning the reporting of hate crimes by law enforcement agencies. Senator Williams explained the bill and discussed its need. She responded to a question concerning the availability of information covered by the bill.

Mr. Jeremy Shaver, representing the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), testified in support of the bill. Mr. Shaver discussed the ADL's work on issues concerning hate crimes, and provided information on hate crimes, generally. He discussed the benefits of HB 17-1138.

Ms. Katica Roy, representing the Isabella Bird Community School, testified in support of the bill. She discussed crimes against the school, and the benefits of the bill. She discussed her experience working with refugees.



Senator Williams commented on the data that would be available under the bill.

Ms. Reed responded to questions concerning the information that would be required to be presented under the bill.
