Senator Martinez Humenik, sponsor, introduced
Senate Bill 18-229 concerning student teacher background checks.  The
bill allows a student in a teacher preparation program to obtain a fingerprint
based criminal background check from the Colorado Department of Education.

 
The bill was on the table for
action only.  Senator Martinez Humenik reminded the committee that
amendments L.001, L.002, and L.003 (Attachments A-C) were passed during
the previous committee hearing.  She distributed amendment L.008 (Attachment
D) and explained the amendment.

Senator Kefalas, sponsor, presented House Bill 18-1277 which concerns a requirement that an application for a Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) Act grant of financial assistance for public school capital construction to include a plan for the future use or disposition of any existing public school facility that the applicant will stop the current use upon receipt of the grant.

Senators Zenzinger and Scott, co-sponsors,
presented House Bill 18-1070 which concerns an increase in the amount of
financial assistance that can be provided for public school capital construction
under the Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) program.  They distributed
a copy of amendment L.004 (Attachment E).  Senator Zenzinger explained
the amendment and provided background information about the bill.
