Chairman Moreno discussed the recommendations of the group. Ms. Jeffries responded to questions from the committee.

Aimee Rednick discussed Bill 2, which would create the Office of Disordered Eating Prevention in the Department of Public Health and Environment. The office would be advised by a Disordered Eating Prevention Commission and will provide grant funding for research on risk factors, impacts, and interventions associated with disordered eating (Attachment B).

Skye O'Toole introduced Bill 4, which makes changes to content standards in comprehensive health and human sexuality instruction, creates a program to contract with clinics for low or no-cost HIV/AIDS testing and treatment, and requires the creation of a youth advisory board and educational campaign related to HIV/AIDS awareness (Attachment D).

Siddarth Nareddy introduced Bill 5. The bill adds two youth members to several committees related to educational standards (Attachment E).

Gabrielle Hooper introduced Bill 6. The bill requires that local education providers implement policies to address disproportionate discipline, and consider certain factors before suspending or expelling a student (Attachment I).

Sun Richardson also discussed Bill 6.

Ms. Schmidt provided a ranking of the students' bills: substance abuse, eating disorders, and disproportionate discipline in public schools.
