SB18-015 - Committee Discussion Only

08:01:55 AM
Senator Gardner gave opening remarks and
proceeded to discuss the series of proposed changes in the bill.

Senator Gardner discussed court proceedings and his concerns about them
not being expeditious enough in these types of eviction situations.

Representative Weissman brought up other concerns about a section of the
bill concerning the writ of execution after judgment.

Committee members discussed the benefits of court orders versus statutory
mandates in relation to law enforcement and affidavits. Committee members
further talked about data collection regarding evictions and court interventions.
Members also conversed about gray market tenancies and oral lease
agreements.

Committee members requested that a draft conference report be completed
by the end of the day that addresses concerns raised earlier in the hearing
about timing and the writ of execution.  Committee members and stakeholders
were instructed to compare the draft against the rerevised version of the
bill.  A subsequent meeting will be scheduled for early next week.

The committee adjourned to meet at the call of the chair as noticed in
the calendar.
