Discussion on Building Sponsorships -

At the request of
the JBC, the committee discussed protocol around naming sponsorships for
state-funded buildings, specifically in regards to the Nutrien Agricultural
Sciences Building fka the Shepardson Building at Colorado State University.

The original
letter from the JBC to the CDC concerning sponsored building naming rights
is included as Attachment C. An explanation from Colorado State University
on their naming policies is included as Attachment D.

The committee requested
CDC staff draft a letter to the JBC outlining the following points:

1. The naming of buildings/classrooms after individuals or private sector
companies has been common for decades;

2. The CDC is thankful for private sector and individual contributions
to higher education;

3. The CDC supports higher education institutions in seeking outside funding;

4. CDC has no desire to create or implement policies or restrictions on
naming facilities or how funding can be raised; and

5. The CDC asserts that the State of Colorado doesn’t invest enough funding
in capital and the CDC supports higher education institutions seeking opportunities
to bolster funding through fundraising.
