12:21 PM -- Presentation on the National Conference of State Legislatures International Education Comparison Study Group



Representative Pettersen, chair, called the meeting to order. Julie Bell, representing the National Conference of State Legislatures, and Marc Tucker, representing the National Center on Education and the Economy, came to the table to begin their presentation about what it will take for Colorado to compete with the best education systems in the world. Mr. Tucker distributed a copy of his Powerpoint presentation (Attachment A). Mr. Tucker talked about the results of the study his group conducted.

Mr. Tucker continued to discuss labor productivity, income distribution, the race between education and technology, the impact of global economic change on education, and the consequences of the near extinction of low-skill, routine work jobs in high-wage countries. He answered questions from the committee.

Mr. Tucker continued to speak about education reform agendas, per pupil spending, and U.S. workforce skills, and discussed a document called "9 Building Blocks for a World Class Education System."
