The committee was called to order. Senator Coram, prime sponsor, presented House Bill 17-1049, which reduces the time that interest accrues from erroneous tax payments by calculating interest based on when an abatement petition is filed. Under current law, interest accrues from the point that erroneous taxes are paid, which can be up to two years before an abatement petition is filed. Senator Coram also explained amendment L.005 (Attachment A).
