Senator Sonnenberg, chair of the Young and Beginning Farmers Interim Study Committee, appeared before the Legislative Council Committee, and moved approval of the bills forwarded by the Young and Beginning Farmers Interim Study Committee. The summary report prepared for the Legislative Council Committee, copies of the bill, and the committee's charge can be found in Attachment K. The bill is as follows:

Bill AAgricultural Workforce Development Program. The bill requires that the Department of Agriculture create by rule an agricultural workforce development program to reimburse agricultural businesses for up to 50 percent of the actual cost of employing an intern. Costs may include wages, fixed expenses, and other costs. The program must be established by January 1, 2019. The program is repealed July 1, 2024.
