Representative Valdez, A., bill sponsor, introduced HB21-1222. The bill requires local governments to treat family child care homes as residential property when it comes to zoning, land use, fire and life safety, sanitation, and building code regulations.  Local governments cannot impose regulations on family child care homes unless the regulations apply to all residential properties.  Finally, the bill requires the Department of Human Services to seek advice and assistance from the Department of Public Safety when promulgating rules related to fire protection and prevention standards for child care agencies or facilities.
