Senator Martinez Humenik, prime sponsor, explained SB18-096 which modernizes "mental retardation" terminology.  She explained that state agencies already use modern terminology, such as intellectual disability and intellectual developmental disorder and that state law should do the same.  

 

Senator Martinez Humenik distributed a technical amendment (Attachment A) that inserts the corresponding bill number in the bill text.  The bill number was not known at the time the bill was drafted.

Christiano Sosa, representing The Arc of Colorado, testified in support of the bill.  

Connor Long, representing The Arc of Colorado, spoke in favor of the bill and explained the benefits of moderninzing terminology.
