Sunset Continue Private Occupational Schools

Concerning the continuation of the "Private Occupational Education Act of 1981", and, in connection therewith, implementing the recommendations contained in the 2023 sunset review by the department of regulatory agencies.

Bill Summary

Sunset Process - House Education Committee. The bill implements the recommendations of the department of regulatory agencies (department), as contained in the department's 2023 sunset review and report of the "Private Occupational Education Act of 1981" by:

  • Continuing the regulation of private occupational schools and their agents;
  • Continuing the functions of the private occupational school division and the private occupational school board (board) for 11 years, until September 1, 2035; and
  • Requiring the board to grant prior approval when a private occupational school changes ownership.
