The committee was called to order.  A quorum was present.  Representative Weissman provided some opening remarks concerning the day's agenda.  Representative Soper presented House Bill 24-1109 in the absence of Representative Bockenfeld.  The bill requires parolees who have been arrested for a violent crime to be returned to the Department of Corrections in lieu of jail. Representative Soper explained the effect of the bill and discussed its need.  Discussion ensued regarding the fiscal impact of the bill.  Aaron Carpenter, Legislative Council Staff, provided input on this issue.

Mr. Sam Zordel, representing the Prowers County Sheriffs Office and County Sheriffs of Colorado, testified in support of the bill. Mr. Michael Yowell, representing the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, testified in support of the bill.

Ms. Adrienne Sanchez, representing Colorado Department of Corrections, was available to answer committee questions.  Committee discussion ensued.
