01:38 PM -- Confirmation of Colorado Mesa University Board Of Trustees



Senator Hill, chair, called the meeting to order. He invited John Marshall, Vice President of Student Services, Colorado Mesa University, to come to the table to introduce the appointee and reappointees to the board: Kelly Brough, Betty Cox Bechtel, and Joan D. Ringel. Copies of the Governor's appointment letter and the appointees' applications and resumes were distributed to the committee (Attachment A). The appointee and reappointees told the committee about their personal, educational, and professional backgrounds, and responded to questions.

01:58 PM -- Presentation by Metropolitan State University of Denver



The committee came back to order. Senator Hill invited Jeremy Tittle, head soccer coach for Metropolitan State University of Denver, to come to the table to talk about the relationship between higher education and athletics. Mr. Tittle answered questions from the committee.









































02:12 PM -- HB16-1289



Senator Hill explained that public testimony would be taken on the next two bills, House Bill 16-1289 and House Bill 16-1291, together. He invited Senators Crowder and Garcia, co-sponsors, to present HB 1289 which concerns incentives for local education providers to encourage high school students to successfully complete career development course work. HB 1291, which is co-sponsored by Senators Hill and Johnston, concerns developing additional resources for modern technology education in public schools.

Senator Holbert, sponsor, presented House Bill 16-1373 which concerns requiring school districts to adopt a policy permitting the use of medical marijuana by students authorized to use medical marijuana.

04:17 PM -- HB16-1289



Senator Hill put House Bill 16-1289 back on the table to finish witness testimony and take action. He closed public testimony without anyone else testifying. Senator Crowder gave closing comments to the bill. Senator Todd discussed a possible conceptual amendment. Committee discussion ensued.

04:31 PM -- HB16-1291



Senator Johnston, co-sponsor, came to the table to explain several provisions of and answer questions about House Bill 16-1291. Witness testimony on the bill was heard previously in conjunction with witness testimony on House Bill 16-1289.

The committee came back to order. Senators Lambert and Steadman, co-sponsors, presented House Bill 16-1422 which concerns financing public schools. A handout from Legislative Council Staff was distributed to the committee (Attachment B). Senators Lambert and Steadman discussed several provisions of the bill.
