Representatives Nordberg and Winter, prime sponsors, presented House Bill 17-1125, concerning eliminating the duty of the Division of Correctional Industries to provide certain services for the state's correctional facilities. Representative Winter provided background on the need for the legislation, and explained the bill's effect. Representative Nordberg provided additional input on the bill. Ms. Deb Goheen, representing the Department of Corrections, testified in support of HB 17-1125. Ms. Goheen explained how certain mandates currently in statute result in unnecessary costs for the department.

Ms. Christina Rosendahl, representing the Department of Corrections, testified in support of the bill. Ms. Rosendahl provided further input on moving certain services away from the Correctional Industries program, and discussed the function of the program. Ms. Rosendahl responded to questions regarding potential negative impacts of the bill on inmate transitions, and the practical effect of the legislation.
