Representatives Herod and Galindo, co-prime sponsors, presented House Bill 19-1152, concerning State Student Advisory Council member eligibility. Under current law, the student advisory council to the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education is comprised of resident students. The bill removes the requirement that student members must be classified as in-state students for tuition purposes in order to serve on the advisory council.

HB19-1121 - Amended, referred to House Appropriations

Representatives McCluskie and Roberts, co-prime sponsors, presented House Bill 19-1121, concerning fifth-year high school and Accelerating Students through Concurrent Enrollmen (ASCENT) program students. The bill establishes priority criteria for allocating ASCENT program slots and extends the grandfather clause for early colleges that was established in Senate Bill 18-225 for one year. Representative McCluskie distributed Amendment L.002 (Attachment A) and a letter from Colorado Mountain College regarding the amendment (Attachment B).

HB19-1116 - Postponed Indefinitely

Representative McKean and Buentello, co-prime
sponsors, presented House Bill 19-1116, concerning hunter education in
schools.  The bill, as amended by Amendment L.001 (Attachment E),
which strikes everything below the enactment clause, permits but does not
require that a local education provider (LEP) offer a hunter education
course as an elective to seventh grade students.  The LEP must enter
into an agreement with an individual or entity to provide the hunter education
course at no cost to the LEP or enrolled students and must receive gifts,
grants, or donations in an amount sufficient enough to pay the cost of
a hunter education course.  Representative McKean distributed a packet
containing course materials for hunter education courses (Attachment F).
