12:51 PM -- Review of Interim Committee Requests



Mike Mauer, Director, Legislative Council Staff, came to the table to explain the process for approving requests for interim committees. Mr. Mauer talked about the voting process for the next portion of the meeting, and explained that there are 26 meetings to give out. A memorandum explaining the funding available for interim committee meetings (Attachment B) was distributed to the committee. Mr. Mauer explained that according to the rules, all appointments to interim committees must be made by June 1, 2017, and that the Senate President will appoint the chair, and the Speaker of the House will appoint the vice-chair, to committees originating in the Senate, and vice versa for committees originating in the House.

Representative Pettersen presented Interim Committee Request 2017-2, which concerns the opioid addiction epidemic. A copy of the request letter can be found as Attachment D. Representative Pettersen explained the need for the interim committee. Senator Jahn and Representative Wilson came to the table to express their support for the request. The presenters answered questions from the committee.
