Representative Pettersen, chair, welcomed the committee and audience, and discussed the committee's schedule. Representatives Williams and Sias, co-sponsors, presented Senate Bill 16-208, which clarifies that if a district charter school converts to an institute charter school, or an institute charter school converts to a district charter school, the converted school's funding is still calculated using the formula that applied to the school before the conversion. Representatives Williams and Sias responded to questions from the committee.

Representative Jon Becker, sponsor, presented Senate Bill 16-104, which creates several new programs to provide incentives for individuals to become teachers in rural school districts, and to support the needs of professional educators in rural school districts. Representative Becker responded to questions from the committee.
